Paganini caprice 14

Keywords: Jack Glatzer This 14th caprice leads us to a very important side of Paganini's multidimensional playing, his imitation of so many different instruments. In fact not only instruments but the human voice and even animals, all of these sounds he could make on his fascinating violin and number 14 is really a brass band playing a march. It's filled with the rhythm of fanfares. [Music] And it's rich almost reminding you flutes and then sometimes of trombones and french horns and trumpets and cornets. All of those elements of an Italian brass band which Paganini would have heard on the street when he was growing up in Genoa. I'd like to mention that the technique involved in this particular work, the chordal technique, because almost every note is played on multiple strings, not only two strings but sometimes three or even four. [Music] And I think it's very interesting to remember that Paganini was an exceptionally fine guitarist and that chordal technique and all of those stretches that the guitarists must make, that must have aided him in his wonderful ability to play chords on the violin.
